Good tummy health is an important part of ensuring overall toddler health and with an exposure to a large number of germs and bacteria at playground, daycare or preschool, upset tummies are pretty much an everyday occurrence for toddlers. Antibiotic medicines can help to reduce the symptoms and provide relief, however, they do tend to drain the tiny toddler’s energy and appetite.
That is where probiotic products step in. Learn more about probiotics and how these ‘good bacteria’ can be used to improve toddler health.
What Are Probiotics and How Are They Good for Toddler Health
Probiotics, according to PennState food scientist, Bob Roberts are “living bacteria that when ingested with food or a nutritional supplement take residence in our gut, mainly in the lower intestines and may influence health in general and specifically.” Roberts also states that these living bacteria are helpful in maintaining good digestive and colon health and are effective in curing and preventing diarrhea.

What I Liked About BioGaia Probiotic Straws
When I was given the chance to review BioGaia Probiotic Straws, I was intrigued by the unique idea behind the product. I had used probiotic drinks, tablets and yogurt for my family, including my toddler, but a straw? Well, that was new. What I really liked was the convenience that BioGaia probiotic straws offer. It is tough to get a toddler to drink a probiotic drink or eat a cup of probiotic yogurt, but put a straw in a glass of cold milk or juice and watch them lap it all up.
I like using probiotics having read a lot about their goodness and so was really happy to try out these straws. My daughter has probiotic milk and yogurt occasionally but she was really happy to use the straws with her glass of milk or juice and I was happy knowing that she was getting her daily dose of ‘good bacteria’. Parents will find the straws easy and convenient to carry and store while using a straw always makes drinking boring milk and juice fun and enjoyable for toddlers and preschoolers. I also took a sip from my toddler’s glass with the straw to check for taste differences and was happy to find that there was no change in the taste.
