Isn’t it amazing how dependent that we have become on cell phones these days? I admit it, I’m an addict. We don’t even own a home phone any longer. Do you? And, not only is my cellular phone my only phone, but the customer service on most cell phone plans is absolutely horrendous! I don’t know how many different companies and plans I’ve tried over the years, but I have rarely had a plan where I don’t have a complaint here and there. Plus, most companies are making so much money hand over fist that they don’t really care. If they lose one customer they gain another. Blah!
It is difficult to find a service that gets really good coverage. Until we moved a bit more into town, I rarely could get any service on my phone. I really felt like a hermit. We didn’t have long distance and I lived in a different county than my friends and we honestly couldn’t really afford to pay the few extra dollars a month for long distance because the old house we were living in was sucking away any nest egg that we were trying to put away. I’d frequently drop calls and felt like I lived in a hole. Thankfully, since we’ve moved into town my coverage has significantly improved, but my phone is always on the fritz. My phone isn’t very old, I’ve only had it since January but it frequently freezes up. I took it in and I was just told to factory reset it. So I did. It erased all the information that I had on it and it hasn’t seemed to help at all.
The biggest thing that drives me crazy about my current plan, being the frugal mom that I am is that I can’t get those really cool text coupons! I was so sad when I found out that I can’t get them. Local grocery stores and restaurants frequently send them and I can’t get them at all. So much for super cool coupons that I don’t even have to remember to bring with me to the store. Boo!
Is there anything out there that is better?
As it turns out, there just might be.
Introducing…
• A study conducted by U.S. Cellular indicates that 43 percent of individuals are in the ‘seven year itch’ phase with their wireless provider, noting they are comfortable but suspect they are missing out on something better.
• Out of the 1,208 participants polled across four regions of the country, 56 percent of the respondents admitted to being unhappy with their carrier over the past year but only 35 percent of all respondents have ever broken up with their provider.
• In spite of this overall dissatisfaction, respondents are hesitant to call it quits. More than one-third of respondents say they stick with their current provider because they believe all carriers are the same, it is too much trouble to switch carriers, or they don’t want to sign a new contract.
If you are looking for something better, new, different – Why don’t you give US Cellular a try? You might be surprised just how great a cell phone company can be. Check out the that they offer as well as a program!

I’m also one that doesn’t have a home phone but I’ve always wondered if perhaps we should have one “just in case”. Thankfully we live in a area with good cell coverage and we recently got smart phones but haven’t tried the coupons through the phone.

We have a home phone, though I keep debating about it. We have 5 kids, and if I leave ds16 in charge, he doesn’t have a cell phone, only the home phone. I think we’ll keep the home phone for quite a bit longer.
Personally, I find researching the cell phone options a bit overwhelming. Not only are there the plans, but the phones themselves. Ugh! I stuck with my current provider when I renewed my contract this summer. I did find a fabulous deal on an iPhone 4 which made me very happy.
