In creating a dice bag (geek thing ) for my husband, I was hit by the inspiration fairy. The original pattern for the Cthulu Dice bag that started all of this can be found at http://www.arcanavitae.com. From this, I made minor changes to create a home-knitted Valentine Treat bag that can be gifted to teachers, secretaries, neighbors, friends, and family.
Materials
- Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice which is a medium (4) yarn
- double point US8 needles
- tapestry needle
Instructions
Start by making the base swatch:
CO 15 and work in a seed stitch (K1, P1/ P1, K1) for 20 rows.
You should wind up with a rectangle about 4in by 3in.
Now, you can either bind off and start a new color or continue in the color you started with. Either way, you will now begin picking up stitches. If you are starting a new color, begin picking up stitches on one of the 20-count sides. Work your way around, picking up 15/20/15. You should now have 4 needles with 15/20/15/20, and you will begin knitting around, and around, and around. This is when the project becomes “set down friendly,” unless you are skilled in graphing your own design to work patterns into the bag.
Knit in stockinette for 30 rounds
Round 31 ~ K5, YO, K5, YO repeat until end of round
Rounds 32-40 ~ resume stockinette
Bind off
Edge is crocheted in Single crochet through each knitted stitch. For my final product, I used a complimentary color for the edge. However, you can use any fun yarn that you might find!
Create I-Cord
K3, slide to end of needle but DO NOT TURN, K3
Repeat until approximately 20in
Slip the I-cord through the holes created on round 31
