To make my daughter’s first Christmas special, I decided to make a Christmas stocking for her. Making your own Christmas stocking is easy to do, fun and something that you can do with your children.
What You Need:
Felt in green, red and white
Foam in white and green
Small pompoms in green, red, white and black
Glue
Scissors
Needle and thread (optional)
Step One: Cut out the stocking
I used smaller sizes to make a baby stocking for my daughter since she will only be six months old at Christmas, but older children will benefit from larger stockings.
Cut out the shape of a stocking from the felt. Make two large stockings from the green and two smaller ones in red.
Cut a line of white felt to go along the top of the stocking.
Step Two: Stick the Parts Together
Stick the red and white on top of the green felt. Fabric glue will work for this, but I found that I had to leave it for the night with some heavy books on top to make sure they stuck completely.
I chose to stick the two green pieces of felt together, leaving the top open. This was purely because I didn’t want my daughter to grab any loose threads that may appear, and I would have to sew by hand. However, if you choose to sew the two pieces, pick a color that will stand out from the green base felt.
Sewing the pieces together is recommended if you are going to use the stocking to place gifts in. Our stockings hang on the fireplace as decorations and the gifts are placed underneath them – the gifts are usually too big to place in the stockings.
See how to Make the Felt Snowman and put together the stocking on Page 2.

Isabella would love creating this, we’ll have to pull some things together for her to create a smaller version to frame! Thanks!

Thank you. It was so much fun to make. This one is just smaller than A4 but I toyed with the idea to make mini ones to put different Christmas-themed cut-offs on. I never thought about framing it though – I might have to do that when Kathryn grows out of this one.

It really is easy to make 🙂 The hardest part I found was to get the felt to stick together! Haha!
