This book is a visual delight to the knitting craftsperson. Many doll knitting patterns are mediocre at best. Not so with this substantial work from Nicky Epstein. 128 pages crammed full of gorgeous photos and inspiration.
Nicky Epstein is hailed in knitting circles as an innovative designer and author. This book gives you a selection of 25 fashionable outfits to craft (if you can decide which one to do first).
Outstanding is the amount of detail the outfits contain. Outfits you might want to knit for ‘real’ little girls. Outfits that have a good amount of glitz and glamour.
There are lots of extras too, surprising accessories.
My favourite would have to be ‘A Rose is a Rose’ – page 30. This outfit comprises a midi coat with matching hat and purse and decorated with sequins and satin roses.
I have not picked up knitting needles for a couple of years, but this book sure makes me want to pick them up again.
Patterns included are cable, fairisle, beading, embroidery – which would make for a good refresher course for the returning knitter. Making smaller items to become familiar again with technique while saving time and yarn – as well as crafting something to be treasured is a bonus.
In my opinion, the book is geared to the intermediate or advanced knitter although serious beginners could work the accessories or smaller projects while learning to knit and move onto the more ‘difficult’ projects they aspire to as they progress.
