I’ve been in the process of potty training my daughter for several months now, and each time, there are so many tears and tantrums, then we give up, only to start again a few weeks later. We’ve done the whole routine – I’ve read books on toilet training, we’ve read potty training –themed books together, I’ve used praise, rewards and fun songs as well. But nothing’s really seemed to work. So, when I got the chance to review Dr. Baruch Kushnir’s The Magic Bowl: Potty Training Made Easy DVD, I was skeptical yet excited. After all, we’d never seen a potty training video and so, this might just work.
Giving Toddlers a Reason to Potty Train
The animated musical video features three cute toddlers – Jennifer, Cindy and Sammy Jo – who are all in diapers. It shows them all wanting to give up diapers one by one for different reasons. So, you have Sammy Jo who has to leave the zoo early because of a heavy diaper, Jennifer who has to change umpteen outfits because her diaper won’t fit under any of them, and Cindy who wants to be like her friends and give up diapers. In other words, the video gives toddlers a reason to give up diapers in a way they can understand and relate to.
Make Potty Training Toddlers Fun and Interesting
While I personally didn’t relate that much to the animated and singing toilet bowl and diaper (not surprisingly!), my toddler happily did. The video uses upbeat songs to teach toddlers about using the toilet and common toilet training issues like constipation, practicing and accidents as well. The simple words, catchy music and fun animations are bound to be a hit with preschoolers, making potty training both boys and girls more fun and less stressful.
Teaching Toddlers Good Toilet Habits
Besides helping toddlers give up diapers and learn how to use the big toilet, the video encourages them to wash hands after going to the bathroom, flushing and basically, develop good hygiene habits. As I discovered, it is so much easier to teach a toddler using your own example and a helpful video like this rather than just reading a book.
Is my toddler toilet-trained yet? No, not fully. But on the bright side, she doesn’t refuse to sit on the toilet, does “go” more often in the toilet and is willing to move up from her cloth diapers. So, I’m happy with the progress we’ve made so far and am hopeful that we’ll reach a stage of “no diapers” really soon.
This fun-filled, musical, animated video is something that can really help parents who want to toilet train their little ones. It is positive, upbeat and empowers toddlers to take a decision to give up diapers. The simple language and various toilet training scenarios (accidents, practicing, and constipation) help toddlers prepare for what might lie ahead.
Overall, the video is a useful, practical and fun potty training help that can really make achieving this parenting milestone easy and stress-free. The Magic Bowl: Potty Training Made Easy DVD is available on Amazon for $14.95.
