Fall has the dual benefit of ushering in flu season AND allergy season all at once. I have a family member who suffers from allergies and kids who, of course, stick everything in their mouths. So I’m always on the lookout for home relief for cold and allergy congestion.
Beyond Steam Inhalations
I’m a huge fan of steam inhalations for congestion relief but when you’re too congested to inhale you need a little extra help! Arm and Hammer Simply Saline is a way to naturally moisturize nasal passages and clear congestion.
If you’re suffering from allergies, rinsing the dust and pollen away will help alleviate your symptoms. And if you’re congested, the sinuses will be cleared and by the gentle mist. The relief is immediate, so that’s a huge benefit to me — you can feel better right away.
I love that this doesn’t interfere with other cold or allergy medications and is non-addictive, so you don’t have to worry about using Arm and Hammer Simply Saline Nasal Relief when you need help to breathe easy. (See full product details here)
This is especially important if you are pregnant or nursing and want to avoid OTC decongestants! Unlike decongestants, this won’t affect milk supply in nursing mothers or have unwanted side-effects for pregnant women. So smart.
Avoid the Dangers of Unsterile Nasal Rinses
The mis-use of Neti-pots made national headlines in the past couple years, and I gave mine up because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to clean it thoroughly. Simply Saline solution stays sterile inside, even after the first use! I love that I don’t have to worry about trying to make sure I source a sterile solution – Arm and Hammer has done that for me.
Want to try some Arm and Hammer Simply Saline for yourself this cold and allergy season? Be sure you pick up one of these coupons to ! Fast, gentle relief with no side-effects and always sterile and ready to use? Smart, smart, smart!
I will be working with Arm and Hammer over the next few months to highlight some of my favorite products and bring you or even giveaway gift packs. This compensated post is my original thoughts and opinions.

I need to try this. My ent prescribed some spray for me but I don’t like that it’s a prescription since I am not a huge western medicine fan.

This looks to an improvement over using a neti pot. The neti pot is, while, effective rather messy and I too had issues with making sure it could be properly sterilized. However, do be aware, a saline (salt) solution of any type should be used in moderation, since over use can upset the ph balance in the sinus tissues. That can lead to additional problems leading to infection.
I personally prefer using cool mist methods rather than steam to deal with upper respiratory infections, since I am allergic to many of the medicines used with steam, especially eucalyptus. I use a cool mist vaporizer add essential oil to the water, pine and peppermint oils seem to work best for me.
Educating yourself on what work’s best for you, is I believe of critical importance. You should be able to work with your Doctor to come up with a plan that gives you the most relief. If your Doctor is not particularly interested or none cooperative, as is unfortunately sometimes the case, do not hesitate to look for another one.
I am enjoying reading your blog. Very interesting information on a variety of subjects. Thank you for sharing.

Good tip thanks. I know many of our readers are pregnant and/or nursing and want options that won’t interfere. I totally agree that it’s important to find a health care provider who will work WITH you – we drove 2 hours for a pediatrician who would respect our health care decisions and it was worth every second. 🙂
