Doesn’t that title just sound awful? Oh, but it is so very good!
This amazingly simple recipe was passed down to me from my dad. His version mixes cherry filing with crushed pineapple; the cake pictured is cherry and apple.
Dump Cake Ingredients
The pan is 9×13 (foil leads to easy cleanup!)
1 box of your favorite yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter sliced into 1/2tbsp squares (if you are using butter not in stick form, use a small dollop per space/about 20 spaces)
Two cans of Comstock Pie Filling* (strawberry/apple, cherry/apple, blueberry/peach, mix and match!)
*If you are doing cherry/pineapple, you need one large can of crushed pineapple in juice
So, *dump* your pie fillings (pineapple) into your pan, cover with cake mix, then evenly spread the butter slices. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 minutes. You are looking for that golden crustyness.
Allow to cool slightly before serving. I suggest a scoop of vanilla ice cream to compliment, as this dish is very much like a cobbler.
