Rose Geranium and Clary Sage are two essential oils that work to regulate the hormones. The stresses of daily life and consuming foods with sugar and caffeine can cause hormone fluctuation, which brings discomfort during certain times for women. Try one of these easy home remedies for women to ease monthly cycle discomfort or menopause hot flashes. This remedy can be as simple as putting a few drops on a cotton ball and placing it next to your pillow as you fall asleep.
Women’s Bath Blend
5 drops Rose Geranium essential oil
2 drops Clary Sage essential oil
1 Tablespoon carrier oil such as Safflower or Grapeseed oil (I just grab what is in my kitchen cabinet).
Drop the essential oils into the carrier oil and add to your bath right before stepping in. Take this bath a couple of nights in a row, a few days before your cycle begins. These essential oils help regulate the hormones and minimize the PMS symptoms. Dietary Tip: It also helps to consume less caffeine and sugar during this time.
Women’s Relief on a Cotton Square
one cotton square, round, or ball
5 drops Rose Geranium essential oil
2 drops Clary Sage essential oil
Drop essential oils on the cotton square at the sign of hot flashes or PMS discomfort such as mood swings and water retention. Inhale the oils deeply, and set the cotton near you so the scent will dissipate into the air.
Sometimes, I use the cotton square treatment with fitness clients in their homes. When they are having a hot flash, we set the cotton square near us in the pilates room. During the breaks between exercises, my client can pick it up and inhale deeply a few times, then go on to the next exercise. Sometimes, clients experience immediate relief from the hot flash symptoms. Another simple technique is to place the cotton ball next to your pillow as you fall asleep, maybe on the nightstand near your bed, inhaling the scent as you drift off to sleep.
Caution: It is important to avoid the essential oils that affect the hormones if pregnant. It has also been recommended to avoid using these oils with pre-pubescent girls since they affect the hormones. Remember, this is aromatherapy for women only.
