We’ve always tried to have our children involved in physical sports and activities. There are so many benefits for encouraging an active lifestyle in your children.
First we signed my son up for soccer the first year he was eligible. That was a stretch for me since I’m not someone who would consider herself the typical soccer mom. I was relieved to find out that I had more in common with the other mothers than I realized.
Since then we’ve had the children in Tae Kwan Do classes and gymnastics lessons depending on season and availability. There are so many positive benefits for the kids to be involved in a physical sport that we try to keep them active all the time!
For my oldest, it’s helped his coordination a great deal. He’s big for his age and growing quickly and with every new growth spurt comes another clumsy phase – like a teenager. But with practice drills and gymnastics exercises he quickly relearns his movement and starts to outgrow the awkwardness again. Until the next growth spurt of course!
For my daughter it helps her develop patience in herself. She tends towards perfectionism and gets frustrated with herself. So having set drills and learning to “practice” is an important skill for her learn. To “not give up but persevere” as our family motto goes.
I was glad to hear about the initiatives of SUBWAY and their Baseball DeSIGNS Auction on Ebay. Everything will go towards supporting youth sport teams so all kids can have a chance to learn about the benefits of sports and physical activities.
