I was blessed with relatively easy labors and was able to have my babies at home with a midwife because my kids were healthy. We rarely go to the doctors at all. But I know that many children face life-threatening medical conditions every day and love supporting organizations that make things a little bit brighter for these children. For 30 years now, Make-A-Wish® has been granting wishes for these kids with some really heart-warming stories.
But Make-A-Wish can use our help! Nearly 75% of all wishes require air travel, making it one of the most costly aspects of granting the wishes that bring hope and inspiration to these children. I learned that 50,000 airline tickets would be needed to cover the wish kids and their families getting to and from their once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Here’s where you come in – Make a simple donation of your frequent flier miles or travel dollars and it will help wish kids take flight. April 29th is World Wish Day so be sure to share with others how they can help to. WWE® Superstar John Cena® is personally matching all the flier miles donated in April, up to 4.5 million so this means your dollars will do double duty!
When a child is facing a life-threatening medical condition, they need to feel hope. In fact, a US study in 2011 found that health professionals surveyed in the study believed a wish-come-true had a positive influence on the physical health of the wish kids. Parents say these experiences strengthen the entire family and can serve as a turning point.
We are heading to Florida next month to make some wishes come through for my kids. Being able to donate some of my unused flier miles into a wish-come-true for a child facing medical issues? Awesome. Getting those miles doubled during the month of April? Brilliant!
This year, 10,000 wish kids and their families will travel for a Make-A-Wish® experience. That’s 50,000 roundtrip tickets or 2.5 billion frequent flier miles. In honor of World Wish Day®, the day of the wish that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish, visit wish.org/tickets and donate miles and dollars – and help wish kids take flight.
