Lots of holiday recipes call for vanilla extract. You can get imitation vanilla for next to nothing at any grocery store, but you really do get what you pay for. Homemade vanilla extract is simple to make and absolutely amazing. You won’t get to use this batch in your Thanksgiving desserts, but your Christmas cookies will thank you!
You’ll need:
3 to 5 vanilla beans
8 ounces alcohol such as vodka, bourbon, brandy, or rum
How to Make Homemade Vanilla Extract
1)Split the vanilla beans
2)Place the vanilla beans in a jar and cover with alcohol
3)Infuse for at least one month
And that’s it! Vanilla extract is very much like wine. The longer it sits in the infused state, the more unique the flavor becomes. Comment below if you are making or have made your own, and check out the video I made while making this batch.
