Fortunately, I was directed to The Henry Ford website which has many interesting links based on the history of Ford but an online shop also. The 2009 holiday catalog is out now and contains some lovely retro goodies, including aprons. I’m a fan of aprons from the 1950s and earlier so this one certainly fits my style.
Jessie Steele’s 50s “Bib Ava” Apron
Although I am far from being Donna Reed, I had a definite Donna moment when I put my apron on. All I needed was a string of pearls and a perfectly clean house! While not made of vintage fabric, this apron is perfect for anyone’s collection. It’s made of one hundred percent cotton, machine washable and one size fits most. The background of the fabric is white, which contrasts nicely with the bold red trim and the yellow and green in the pattern. The fabric is kitchen-themed, dotted with appliances, dishes and flowers. It makes me wish I could keep my kitchen as uncluttered as the one on the apron. The edges are scalloped and trimmed in red, as are the front two stash pockets which also feature adorable red bows.
This apron, while sold by The Henry Ford, is made by Jessie Steele Living. It’s reasonably priced at $29.99 and also comes in a youth size, priced at $24.99. The youth size is the same pattern although the cut is slightly different. It’s almost too cute to wear, although you can take satisfaction in knowing that one day it may be “retro-retro” for a youngster in your family.
Retro Gifts in The Henry Ford Catalog
Aprons aren’t the only retro styled items for sale in the Henry Ford catalog. Items of interest include books, bags, model cars, sock monkeys, art and handcrafted glass. The company also has a selection of old fashioned games, telephone replicas and a very cool alarm clock made out of a vintage Brownie camera. My favorite has to be the glass pickle ornament. Be prepared to pay a little more for some goodies but on the whole the products are fairly priced. I think, if you set your mind to it, you could quite possibly find a unique gift for everyone- that is if you could bear to part with them.
