I am big into board games. My husband, not so much. But when we played Spontuneous, he actually admitted it was a “pretty fun game”! If you’re looking for a good party game this holiday season and you listen to any type of music, Spontuneous is a excellent choice! Their tagline is “Spontuneous bring the lyrics to life.”
What is Spontuneous?
Spontuneous is a game that asks players to think of a word in a song, called a “trigger word.” After adding words to your “hit list,” you take turns rolling the die and then challenging other players to sing a song with that word in it. Stump them, and you move ahead. If they come up with a song, they move ahead! There are also extra challenges throughout the game that you can strategically use to win. It’s for four to 10 players, and the recommended ages are 9 to adult. My almost six-year-old actually played along with us. We just used simple trigger words for him, like “twinkle” and “Jesus” so he could easily think of and sing the songs.
Include Spontuneous in Your Holiday Game Night Fun
Take a break from all the crazy shopping, baking and gift-wrapping preparations and have a game night with family and friends. Laughter is a great de-stresser! Put on some upbeat Christmas music to set the mood and get some “trigger-word” ideas flowing. Last year, we had a game night with our couples’ Bible study group that also included a Christmas treats exchange and white-elephant gifts.
Where to Find Spontuneous

Spontuneous won the Creative Child Magazine 2011 Game of the Year Award. This game would be a fun to give as a “family gift,” to grown-up game lovers or to a musical college student! Happy singing!
