My First Oreck is an adorable toy vacuum that keep kids entertained in a practical and engaging way. It is recommended for ages three and up, and both my two and three year old boys love it. The vacuum makes real vacuum sounds, has a clear dust container with swirling colored foam bead, LED lights under the base and a real on and off switch. The My First Oreck is 29 inches tall with an adjustable handle and also comes with chore flash cards.
Whenever I pull out the real vacuum, the kids would swarm about me and want to help. it would take forever to vacuum my tiny 1000 square foot house because they would hang all over me and “help.” Now i just pull out there little Oreck and they vacuum alongside me. In fact, i had to purchase a second My First Oreck because the boys would fight over the toy, making it impossible to vacuum at all.
Pros of My First Oreck:
What I absolutely love about My First Oreck kids’ vacuum is that the sound is not obnoxious at all. I’m the stealthy mom that makes batteries and complete toys disappear if their disturb my inner peace. There haven’t been too many toys, but some really weigh on my sanity. My First Oreck has a slight humming that is white noise, and actually quite relaxing. I could see a toy like this putting a small infant or toddler to sleep with its soothing sound.
I think the LED lights, sound and the colorful foam beads are my kids’ favorite by far. The colorful funnel makes my kids think that they are really picking up dirt… very colorful beads of dirt. My three-year-old says the beads are the “bestest colored dirt ever.” My two year old loves it too and yells “DIIIRRRTT!”
Cons of My First Oreck:
The flashcards that the toy comes with are pretty disappointing and underdeveloped. They neither add nor take away from the toy. The company might consider doing away with them completely since they are printed on paper slightly weaker than stock paper and have nothing to do with vacuuming. My take is that the toy is very straightforward and it doesn’t need any fringe to make it better. It is solid as is.
I also think My First Oreck is a bit pricey at $49.95. It is a solid straight forward toy and very fun, but it might be more popular at a lower price range. But that said, I paid for an extra one for my kids, and would buy again just for the sanity value that the toy has.
Two and three are brutal ages for any parent, especially when trying to get chores done. My First Oreck has been a great addition to our family toy collection and has made it easier to cross at least one chore off my list with ease.

I realize that this post or review is nearly a year old, so I have no idea if you will read this comment….
actually it is more of a question…how has this toy held up over the past year for your boys? Would you consider it a durable product? If you read this and could give me your opinion I’d love it as the price only seems to be higher this year and I am seriously considering purchasing. Thanks so much! Renee Hardesty
Hi Renee! Thanks for commenting. The Oreck Toy Vacuum has held up really well. And that is with over a year of a 2 and 3 year old boys, now 3 and 4, “cleaning” the upstairs, the downstairs…and throwing it down the stairs a few times. lol. Its a good toy, and very nice a quiet – its like white noise when its on and doesn’t drive me nuts like other noisy toys do. It a great toy!
Thank you so much! It is hard to compare it against the ones you can actually see in the store (I’ve not been impressed by any so far including the toy Dyson out there), but to know it has made it down a flight of stairs in one piece, I feel safer in spending a little more! 🙂 Thank you again for such a quick reply too! Have a wonderful Holiday Season!
No problem Renee! And to help matters out, it went down a flight of carpeted stairs AND a flight of ceramic tile stairs and was A-OK! lol. Enjoy the Holidays!
Another year later 🙂 …..was wondering were your oreck toy vacuum was made. I am looking for a toy vacuum made in the USA. I believe that the “adult” versions of oreck vacuums are made in TN but cannot find any manufacturing location for the toy version. thanks!!
Hi Sara! You know I actually am not sure where it is made. I gave it away to a friend recently since my kids don’t play with it anymore. They got two good years out of it though and they asked me the other day if they could help me vacuum with their vacuum – got a BIG guilt trip over that one! I couldn’t find any information on where it is made either. Maybe if you call the company?
I found one at Goodwill for about $4. I wanted to get one because my son is obsessed with the big one. New ones seemed too pricey so when I saw the one at Goodwill I thought ‘Perfect!’ Both kids like it but my son loves it.
