Babies are certainly pros at making noises; loud noises, unusual noises, rude noises, silly noises…it is one of their favorite games ever! So here are some ideas for Noisy Games to play with your baby through his first year of life.
Newborn Baby Sound Games – Babies are masters at making “impolite” noises. And what fun it is to play along! Your baby is a great excuse to blow bubbles, make raspberries, kissy-noises and lip buzzes. He will delight in trying to mimic you as you both explore the variety of noises and expressions you can make together.
Noisy Games to Play with Babies – You baby finds music interesting, perhaps kicking his feet, or waving his hands when fun music plays. Put on a CD with kids songs and listen to it with your baby. Bounce the baby up and down on your lap, clapping his hands together during a fast paced song and gently rock him back and forth during a slow paced song.
Exploring Sound Games with Older Infants – “Old McDonald Had a Farm” is a great song for exploring animal sounds with your baby. As you sing the song show her a stuffed animal or picture of the animal you are singing about and together practice making the animal sounds that go with the animal. Animal sounds become a long-lasting and favorite baby game!
Old McDonald had a farm; E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a pig; E-I-E-I-O
With a oink, oink here and an oink, oink there
Here an oink. There an oink.
Old McDonald had a farm; E-I-E-I-O
Replace pig and oink with other animal and sound pairs such as; horses, neigh; cows, moo; chickens, cluck; ducks, quack, etc.
Music Sound Games – Babies love to make noises and explore musical instruments so play lots of music games. Musical instruments can be store bought or homemade but place some “drums” on the floor and show your baby how hitting them can create different sounds! What a fun game!

These are great tips – I think getting your kids to participate even on a small level like this encourages them to find their own voice and run with it. Plus, who doesn’t love to see the little ones laughing and giggling?
