To circumcise or not circumcise? Things you should consider….
Being a new mom of a boy, I had to deal with the quandary of whether or not I should have him circumcised. After spending most of my life fully believing in it, I was given a link on a man who wanted his foreskin back. That article forever changed my opinion on the topic. (Note: This article contains language or topics that may not be suitable for all readers.)
The Decision to Circumcise Should Not Be Taken Lightly
Before deciding for yourself what is the right way to go, you have to ask yourself the reasons for or against it.My reasons were simply that I was raised to believe it was more hygienic and appealing. Are those good enough reasons to remove a part of a boy’s penis that he was born with? My husband wanted our son circumcised. I asked him if there was any other reason than that he was circumcised and wanted his son to match. He couldn’t come up with another reason. I told him a bit of what I had read online, so he concluded that if the pediatrician had any medical reason for a circumcision, we would get it done. Otherwise, we wouldn’t.
What did the pediatrician tell us?That there was no medical benefit of circumcisions, and that he didn’t like performing them.He said the foreskin is there for a reason, and that the only benefit of circumcision is that it cuts down on the odds of an infant having urinary tract infections up to six months of age. After that, the odds for both are the same.
Why Did Circumcision Become Popular?
In the past people didn’t wash themselves very often, so removing the foreskin kept the penis cleaner. In actuality all it takes is sliding the foreskin back to keep it clean.Another reason might be that not having a foreskin would cut down on boys masturbating, since it increases the pleasure. The foreskin acts as a natural lubricant (called gliding) that makes masturbating easier. So it’s actually a selfish way to keep our children from masturbating? That doesn’t sound like a justifiable reason.
Circumcision and AIDS
When I posted on pregnancy forums, I was told that the likelihood of getting diseases like HIV is higher for men with foreskins. The germs can get trapped underneath the skin and cause infection. Well, the last time I checked, HIV was transferred via blood, not infection. Interesting to note is that if you check http://www.circumstitions.com/, they give percentages of men with AIDS in Africa, and the odds are slightly higher for circumcised men to have AIDS.
Is Prettier That Important?
The last debate is whether or not it looks better.Yes, I do personally prefer the look of a circumcised penis.I have seen pictures of uncircumcised men and don’t think they are too attractive, but what is more important: more attractive or more pleasurable? The foreskin not only makes the sex better for the man, but for the woman as well.
Basically you need to do your own research. If it’s not your religious practice, then make up your own mind. For more information, check out the American Medical Association for their viewpoints.
