If you’re like me, you hate taking the family to the barber shoop or hair salon. For this reason, I do my best to cut my boys’ hair at home to save time and money.
So enters the Wahl Color Pro Trimmer set, a complete haircutting kit.
I was sent the Color Pro 26 piece set, available here. It retails for $34.99, but can also be found at discounted prices. I was immediately happy with the hard case it comes in; other trimmers I’ve used in the past have come in either cumbersome cases or with no storage container at all.
Inside you’ll find the assortment of guards, scissors, clipper maintenance items and the best hair-cleaning brush I’ve used. (Seriously, this brush worked really really well.)
I have to say, one of the complaints I have with this set is that it’s hard to keep everything organized inside the case. Minor, I know, but it would be nice if there were a good way to put the guards away and keep them in an easy-to-find spot in the case. A lot of this is made easier with the color guide, though.
Right on the handle is a color-coded guide that tells you which color guard is for which length of hair. I found this immensely useful while trimming hair.
So, to give the clippers a good test, I needed some volunteers. I was somewhat anxious because trim time at our house is usually met with fussing and fear.
The Volunteers:
Both boys have unique hair challenges. The youngest child’s hair is very soft and tends to gum up in clippers, while my eldest’s hair is so thick it tends to snag. I’m quite happy to say that these Wahl clippers are no slouch, and cutting both boys’ hair was a breeze.
Another thing that I was pleased about with this model was how quiet the clippers are. During operation, they barely emit more than a soft hum, which didn’t scare the kids at all. Instead of a screaming fit, these clippers allowed for a relaxed and fun time for dad and lad alike.
The only time the boys got antsy was when trimming around the ears, and even this process was made MUCH easier with a set of left and right ear fade guards supplied in the package.
After the bulk of the haircut was done, I did have problems shaping the hair in the back since there wasn’t a smaller trimmer in this kit but, all in all, the Wahl Color Pro Clippers were a joy to use.
Even though I’m not a barber by a long shot, these clippers made giving a good haircut at home a quick and relatively painless process. I highly recommend picking this set up.
