I’m sure everyone has heard of hydrogen peroxide and probably has a brown bottle of the stuff in their bathroom. Most people don’t seem to know what to use it for. My mom always had it in the house, so I should too. After doing a bit of online research, it amazes me how many people fear it, though that might not be too much of a mystery since it’s stated that in higher concentration HP can be toxic. That should only be taken with a grain of salt, however, since everything taken in higher doses is toxic…even water!
Hydrogen Peroxide Can go in Ears
I have to stock several bottles in my household, since it is used almost on a daily basis. My mother would put it in my ears every time I used a swimming pool to keep them from getting infected. Being raised using Hydrogen Peroxide, I don’t fear it at all. It’s good sprayed on open wounds, and it can even be used as an internal douche. Be sure to visit the following two sites to learn more about this wonderful liquid, which is basically water with an extra oxygen molecule: Educate Yourself and Green Living Tips.
What are all Those Bubbles?
When Hydrogen Peroxide encounters bacteria or virus, it releases the oxygen, which destroys that nasty stuff. There are even some believers out there that feel it is key to destroying cancer within the body. Cancer is anaerobic, which means it cannot survive in an oxygen-rich environment. Cancer can only grow in a body that is oxygen deprived. Hydrogen Peroxide is aerobic, which is the opposite of anaerobic. It is oxygen rich. Of course, there are many naysayers who feel Hydrogen Peroxide should not be introduced intravenously due to its toxicity.
Hydrogen Peroxide Occurs in Nature!
Is it really toxic? Well, I’m not a chemist, but having used it most of my life, I would be the first in line to try Hydrogen Peroxide to fight cancer. Maybe the reason so much fear is instilled in the general populace is that it cannot be trademarked and sold by the big pharmaceutical companies. Why can’t it be trademarked? Because it happens naturally in nature. It would be like trying to trademark water. You can buy a big bottle of hydrogen peroxide at any pharmacy or department store for about a dollar.
Here are just a few of the things you can use it for in your household:
- Spray on clothing stains before you put it in the wash and it will take out blood and wine.
- If you have blood or wine in your carpet, spray some Hydrogen Peroxide on it. Wait a few minutes and then blot dry. The stain will vanish, and it won’t bleach the color out.
- Ignore the tip that if you use it on clothing or carpet, you must rinse with water or you risk bleaching. I have sprayed Hydrogen Peroxide on my clothing days before washing and haven’t had any problems, as well as only blotting the carpet. It’s something you have to decide for yourself if it’s worth risking.
- Dip your toothbrushes in Hydrogen Peroxide to kill germs. Use it as a mouthwash. It can also whiten teeth and is a cheap way to lighten your hair.
The easiest way to decide if you should use Hydrogen Peroxide is by asking yourself if you would use bleach on a task. If the answer is yes, then try Hydrogen Peroxide instead. It’s not only better than bleach, it’s healthier too. Not only for the human body, but for the environment as well.
