Just when I thought I was done having festive and bright toys all over my house. It’s true. My kids have nearly all grown up and it seemed that I was out of the toy scene forever. Then my granddaughter was born and I’m having a wonderful time discovering (and rediscovering the toys kids love. My granddaughter and I both loved reviewing the Strawberry Shortcake Splashin’ Petal Pool Playset by Hasbro.
The Strawberry Shortcake You Remember
Strawberry Shortcake came onto the scene as a greeting card character for American Greetings in 1977. She and her cat, Custard were drawn by Muriel Fahrion. Strawberry Shortcake rag dolls, sticker albums, dolls, clothes, pets, and a TV series soon followed. During the 1980s Strawberry Shortcake and her friends, along with their pets, became all the rage for kids all over the United States.
Strawberry Shortcake rag dolls, sticker albums, dolls, clothes, pets, and a TV series soon followed. I was 13 years old when Strawberry Shortcake first came onto the scene and I remember her well, as do my children who played with the next generation of the Strawberry Shortcake toy series. Now, my grand children can play with the well-loved American character as she once again makes an appearance in a children’s world of a make-believe land where everything is sunny and delicious.
The Strawberry Shortcake Splashin’ Petal Pool has a sweetly-scented Strawberry Shortcake sitting at her petal-shaped table under her umbrella at the top of a big pool slide. Kids can watch Strawberry Shortcake go down the slide and into the pool where a big sunflower shower waits for more water fun. Along with the pool, umbrella, table, slide, and flower shower, the playset comes with a fruity-sweet-smelling Strawberry Shortcake figure, a colorful sun hat, and a real fabric towel.
4-Year-Old Comments on Splashin’ Petal Pool
I thought it would be nice to share my 4 year old granddaughter’s thoughts in her own words. When I asked her what her favorite thing about the Strawberry Shortcake Splashin’ Pool Playset she said, ” My favorite part is that after she swims she has her own towel.” She went on to add, “Strawberry Shortcake smells so good! I want to get her a friend to swim with her.”
The Splashin’ Pool features a sunflower that looks over the pool and showers water on Strawberry Shortcake when you pump the big flower leaf. It’s a cute design and my grand daughter liked to do it, but I had to help pump (prime) it at first to get it going for her.
Tomorrow, my grand daughter and I have a date to go pick up Strawberry Shortcake’s friend, Raspberry Torte for a pool party play day.
