My backyard is not the typical backyard of most suburbanites, I know. My backyard is productive. Active. Full of life in every sense of the word. It is my oasis away from an overly technical job at the computer.
A backyard oasis must, for me, reconnect me with the earth in a hugely tangible way.
Animals are an absolute must. Our backyard livestock feed the family, teach our kids the facts of life in an easy way, and how to care for others weaker than themselves.
Children’s toys? Not clutter in our house but rather evidence of growing, curious, amazing little people.
A Zoro….no wait, Ninja….no…Super-rockstar-singer-man? Shucks…I give up. Whoever he is, he’s awfully cute and I like having him in the backyard too.
Growing things are a must. Growing things that look pretty and growing things that teach the cycle of life and growing things that are yummy to eat.
More growing things beyond that are just an added bonus.
A place to set your coffee cup. Or sit to watch the world.
A friendly face to pet and scratch.
For me the only way this could be better is with a swimming pool. What does your dream backyard oasis entail? Leave a comment below for a chance to win!
