I have to admit – I love Christmas. I love New Year’s. I love the holiday season. There is so much about it that is worth celebrating. In fact, I’m pretty sure just about the only thing I don’t appreciate very much is the cold. ๐
Some of my favorite traditions center around family, faith and fresh beginnings.
Memories Through Personal Christmas Ornaments
Each year my parents gave us personal Christmas ornaments. When they married, my parents didn’t have any ornaments. So when we were little they started the tradition of getting an ornament to memorialize something special that happened during the year. Often we picked it up during a family vacation or special outing, or the ornament was related to a new hobby or sport or interest. Sorting through the ornaments each year is a trip down memory lane.
New Year’s Resolutions and Goals
I always feel energized and ready to tackle new projects this time of year. Don’t you? Last year I took on a new website, The Untrained Housewife. This year I’ll be promoting a new big ebook and mentoring other writers, in addition to creating my first e-course about web writing and keyword research. Not sure what else this year has in store, but it’s going to be good – I know that much.
Christmas Stockings Made by Hand
My mother made my Christmas stocking when I was a little girl using one of those felt stocking kits. It became a tradition that each of the children in our family has their own personal stocking made by mom. Both my sister and I have continued the tradition with our children although I have to admit – my sister isn’t behind like I am. ๐ My poor kiddos have gone too long without their own stockings. Evan’s is finished and is beautiful so I’m working on Brianna’s and my goal for the year is to make sure it gets done. I’d like to have Brianna’s and Micah’s finished before I have all the pressure of the new baby.

I agree. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is unpacking all our decorations and putting ornaments on the tree. It brings me back, spurs conversation and stories among my hubby, kids and I. I will be pretty sad when one of my 31-year-old ornaments breaks one day!
