Making your own laundry soap

Jenn shared a recipe about making powdered laundry soap and it sounds like not only effective way to clean laundry, but also a huge savings compared to buying commercial brand soap. Do you use a specific brand of laundry soap? I’ve seen recipes for make-it-yourself liquid laundry soap too.
