As you know, I’m a huge believer in “get your hair wet parenting” as I call – that intentional playfulness with your children is one of my 7 Principles of Intentional and Self-Sufficient Living in my Untrained Housewife Manifesto. But sometimes kids like to play MESSY. And when you have five…wow! Your floors can take a beating.
We’ve been through so many cheap floor rugs that I feel guilty buying a new one. I can’t stand the flooring in our living room and it’s further down on the to-do list than I’d like. So when I had the chance to participate in Mohawk’s Get Down to Play With Your Kids campaign and review their SmartStrand carpeting I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Better yet – one of you will win a rug of your own in the Global Vision design and the beautiful Sequoyah Dusk color.
Why do I feel it’s so important to get down on their level?
Kids remember when you light up in their presence. And when you purposefully place yourself at their level. Yes they want to sit on you. With faces lit up in delight.
Yes they want to mimic you. Hopefully you are showing habits worth mocking. Moments like these – when my 15 month old decides it’s cool to sit and read, because her sister thinks it’s cool to sit and read because I’ve shown her that it’s important to sit and read….priceless.
Seeing firsthand the creativity and ingenuity my children have inside? When they put on their looks of concentration and make something really fun happen? Amazing.
Even more amazing is that I do not have to stress too much and ruin their fun time with yelling about the keeping the rug clean. SmartStrand technology means the stain and soil resistance are built into the rug permanently Unlike most stain treatments which eventually wear off or wash away (and in my case with five kids, more quickly than you can imagine!) SmartStrand gives you stain protection for as long as you have the carpeting!
And now the best part – One Untrained Housewife reader will win a Mohawk SmartStrand bound rug of their own in a generous 6 x 9 foot dimension! Click here to enter now for your chance to win.
I don’t spend a lot of money on things around the house, so when I do I want to know I’m going to get a lot of life out of my investment. Mohawk gets that with their SmartStrand carpeting.
Mohawk Flooring sponsored this post and giveaway, but opinions, ugly linoleum, and active children are all my own.

I can’t even tell you all the horrid deaths rugs have died in my home. We made the mistake of buying them at Wal-Mart which – even though my husband works there and we got a good deal – it just does NOT hold up to the five minions in our home. 🙂

Thanks for this giveaway and the reminder that we need to get down on our kids levels to have some fun! It is so true that they recognize when you ‘let go’ and just play like a kid! Not only do they love it when you light up in their presence, but they also love when you can let go of the structure and things to-do to show them that they are what you enjoy most. I love when they giggle and laugh and truly enjoy our presence as parents as well!

Loving the photos – and the rug giveaway! I’m the mom who is always on the floor wrestling with the kids. Hopefully one day they’ll come to appreciate that!

I think they will. Right now it’s “normal” to my kids but one day they’ll learn that they are special and blessed. 🙂
