This is an excellent remedy for those occasions where a cold or allergies have caused sinus congestion. By opening and draining the sinuses, you will prevent developing a sinus infection, deepen your breathing, and relieve the pressure in your head. If you have not tried a steam inhalation before, it is rather easy. Just grab a bath towel and a glass bowl from the kitchen. Put some water on to boil while you grab the essential oils.
What You Need for a Sinus Steam Inhalation
glass bowl
bath towel
timer
4 cups hot water
1 drop Pine essential oil
1 drop Eucalyptus essential oil
1 drop Tea Tree essential oil
Step 1: Pour the hot water into the bowl and add the essential oils.
Step 2: Turn the timer on as you place the bath towel over your head like a tent, with your face about 8 inches away from the water. It is important not to move your face closer to the bowl. Steam can very hot and may burn if your face is too close.
Step 3: Keep your eyes closed and breathe in and out deeply for about ten minutes.
Twice a day is recommended. The pine, eucalyptus, and tea tree oils drain the sinuses while killing and bacterial that may lodge in the sinus cavities and develop into an infection. If you are an allergy sufferer, take these essential oils with you when you travel out of town. If you have an allergy attack where your sinuses are blocked, this remedy works great. If you do not have access to a kitchen, you can put the oils on a cotton round and breathe them deeply. Even without the steam, it may improve your breathing and help drain the sinuses.
