Hey there! I’m Kelli and I blog over at eat pray {read} love. I love collecting Christmas ornaments each year for each of my children. My plan is to give them and their future spouses all of their ornaments when they get married. (Yes, I will win mother-in-law of the year award!)
I’ve decided this year that we’ll be making our ornaments- it’s a lot cheaper and I think it will be super fun! (Well as fun as trying to corral the chaos that is three children crafting, a baby on my hip, glitter, glue, and glass ornaments can be!)
I made this ornament for my best friend, whose baby is due any day now! It was very quick and easy and I love that her baby will receive a personalized gift from me. Here’s how I did it:
1.) Collect all of your supplies. The main things you need are glass ornaments (find these at Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart), scissors, hot glue, curling ribbon, a sharpie or paint pen, and any scrapbooking embellishments you have lying around. After that, it’s up to you! I made a few different ornaments, and they all look completely different.
2.) Use your scissors to curl the curling ribbon. Lay the blade of your scissors on the ribbon and slide it until it curls.
3.) Keep curling the ribbon until it’s as curly as you’d like.
4.) Add ribbon to the glass ornament and hot glue the top to the ornament.
5.) Add any embellishments, like this rocking horse, using hot glue. Also add writing if you’d like.
Presto, you’re done!
You can also see how I made this Pearls and Lace Ornament in a similar fashion.
If you have other handmade ornament ideas, I’d love to hear them! You can find me over at eat pray {read} love.

Very cute! Each of my kids picks out a new ornament each year as well, or we make them, I plan on giving them to them for their “first” Christmas too 🙂

Sweet idea and not too hard for the not-so-crafty among us! Happy Holidays!

Great idea! I love it and we have a new grandbaby joining us for Christmas this year. I am making one of these for a gift.
I also collected ornaments for each of our four children all their growing up years. I think my daughter in law was very happy to receive all the ornaments for their first Christmas together. Its a lovely idea

Oh wow Janet that is wonderful! I also have four children. I hope my daughters-in-law enjoy the ornaments in the future!
I’d love to see the one you create for your grandbaby! How exciting!

Those are adorable, a great idea, and handmade gifts are the best kind! I don’t have any new babies in my life at the moment, but I can think of some variations that some older kids would enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Lesa! There are so many options with these clear ornaments. I’m sharing another one on my blog eatprayreadlove.com on Monday! Have fun!

How adorable! This would be such a sweet gift (I’m not eager to have any more kiddos any time soon myself…lol). This looks sweetly chic, and yet, I think it might be easy enough for even me to make.
