You know when someone does something nice for you – unexpected and completely awesome? Doesn’t it make you smile? I love that!
One time, I was rushing to church, driving through McDonald’s to get breakfast for the kids and some much-needed coffee for me. And we saw one of the ladies we go to church with was in the car ahead us. The kids waved and made faces and it was all very funny. But when we got to the window to pay we found out she had covered our food bill already for us. That made me smile all day thinking about how she went out of her way to bless our family and show the kids a kindness (and me as well – coffee – yum!)
Recently, our church did a great Thanksgiving Serve where we gave out 100 baskets of food to families in need. Not just a Thanksgiving dinner, but a week’s worth of dinners! It was so much fun to work together as a group, put the baskets together, and then hand out or deliver the items to people in need. It made my entire day – my whole week actually.
Last week, a friend who knew it had been two years and one baby since our last family photos invited me over for a quick photo shoot! We traded photo time in front of the camera and both wound up with some great pics for the holiday season. What better way to smile it forward than to help create some lasting memories.
And these random acts of smile-making don’t have to be hard, expensive, or complicated. It could be as simple as writing someone a note telling them how much you appreciate them. Or smiling at a mother dealing with a temper-tantrum-kid and saying, “Hey – I’ve been there. Hang in there, Momma.” Or surprising your neighbor by mowing their lawn for them while they are away on vacation so they have one less thing to stress over when they arrive home. Something. Anything. Time. Attention. A smile of your own.
That’s why I adore this cool Smile it Forward sweepstakes by Invisalign. You probably know the company as the brand with the nearly-invisible, removable “aligners” that can gradually straighten teeth with no wires, no metal, no fuss. From very simple to very challenging, Invisalign offers a full spectrum of clear straightening treatments for most types of orthodontic issues. Take the Invisalign Smile Assessment to find out if Invisalign is right for you or your child.
Once you have your smile figured out, you can figure out how to put a smile on someone else’s face with Smile it Forward. Enter the sweepstakes and be entered to win $500 for you and $500 to put a smile on someone else’s face! $500 can go a long way towards Smiling it Forward, eh?
How would you smile it forward if you had $500 to spend on someone else?
And what lovely smiles on you and your family’s faces! The world does need more people making other people smile. I shared on FB too 🙂
Take care! Karen
