In our quest to replace crappy, cheap, and harmful clothes with better alternatives as they wear out, I have been looking for organic clothing companies to support. I consider these items an investment because I’m learning to see them as an ultimate savings – when I spend $45 on a shirt that is organic and made with fair trade practices and will last me 5+ years, that is actually CHEAPER than the $15 counterpoint that wears out or looks awful after a year (not to mention is made in deplorable conditions with harmful dyes and earth-destroying raw materials). So I was super excited when someone recommended Synergy Organic Clothing to me.
Their organic clothing pieces definitely speak to my personal style and they carry a wide range from stylish jackets to yoga clothes. I selected the Layla Asymmetrical Tunic in black, and the Mermaid skirt in Henna for this review. Both are pieces I will get a lot of use out of, especially the black tunic top which can dress up or down.
The black tunic has a long asymmetrical line in the hem, and since I’m shorter than the model on the website it had a really nice length. I could actually wear this with leggings and boots if I wanted to; it’s that long on me if I don’t draw up the side drawstrings too much. Which brings me to the fun details in this shirt – the drawstrings on the shorter side which can create a more obvious ruching on the side, and the subtle detail work in the shoulders. Love that!
The skirt was a style I hadn’t worn too much before, but I liked the subtle asymmetry and comfortable looking design. I was right! It is very comfortable, not too tight around my legs (I can walk freely), and has a nice flow to it. This will be perfect for church, conferences and other “I want to look nice but still be comfortable” occasions.
The fabric is super soft and comfortable.ย The fit is great and right on the money. I’m usually a Medium or Size 8 and the Medium sized tunic and skirt fit perfectly. There are a variety of styles to choose from, which is nice, and the colors make it easy to mix and match pieces into multiple outfits. I combined these two and they look great together.
I love that the cotton is organic and therefore as good for the earth as it is to wear. I also appreciate that workers are being paid fair wages and given safe work environments. Another thing to consider is that the dyes are low-impact dyes, meaning they do not use a lot of water during processing. Partly they are able to conserve water because the dye process does not use heavy metals, harsh toxins, or GMOs in any of the dyes. And yet the colors are so vibrant and beautiful!
When you are switching to organic clothing at these prices, where you want to think longer-term about your purchases, I recommend starting with wardrobe basics. A solid color top, like Layla, that you can wear with jeans, skirt, or blazer for any occasion is a great example. Or consider a pant or dress that can be easily accessorized for a variety of situations.
Then you will have these amazing pieces you are wearing on a very regular basis and will not only get your money’s worth out of their use, but also be supporting earth- and human-friendly practices that really make a difference in our world. Wear them with pride and peace of mind.

The models online all look fairly petite. How comfortable is the clothing for those of us that are…blessed with extra? Does the fit stay as cute?
AngEngland says
Stephanie – I used their sizing guide. So I have on the medium 6/8 and am usually a 36B or C depending on fit. I’m definitely curvier than their models absolutely. The skirt fits brilliantly even over the 5-babies-in-ten-year pooch and the shirt is stretchy in a comfortable way. If you were more than a C cup you’d probably want a size up to allow room …these are designed to be long so it doesn’t matte that the shirt is long.
Of course look at the cuts to select a style that fits your body shape and personality. The hoodie looked super cute but I liked the sleeveless tunic top I reviewed here big sleeveless isn’t your thing, check out one of the other tops. I think the style varieties they have is a bonus.
Also click through to their Facebook page and ask which styles are more friendly in that area. I found them very responsive and helpful when making my selections. There ARE physical store locations if you are near one of those to try the clothes in person but that isn’t realistic for me and my situation so I took a gamble and it paid off brilliantly.
