A few days before the most romantic day of the year, a lot of you are probably searching for more innovative ways on how you’ll celebrate that day with your beloved. While it’s nice to have a candle-lit dinner, serenaded by string quartet, be surprised by a humongous bouquet of flowers or a hundred big balloons, simply doing something different together can add a little more spice to the occasion. Not to mention the huge savings that you’ll make by not being too fancy. A unique experience on Valentine’s Day will surely make this day one for the books, something you’ll remember for the years to come.
Here are some fun and frugal romantic date ideas for Valentine’s Day.
1. Book Bargain Hunt
Perfect for couples who are avid readers. This is my personal favorite. My husband and I can spend the day (or the night!) for hours and hours on end, while seated beside each other. Shopping for books, especially bargain books, can really make me giddy with delight.
2. Flea Market Raid
Nothing beats the thrill of flea market-hopping and finding treasures you never expected to find. Create an imaginary time limit or scavenger hunt list for an added adrenaline rush.
3. Stargazing
Lying beside each other, mesmerized at the vastness of the sky on a starry-starry night. Is that romantic, or is that romantic?
4. Zoo Trip
Our furry animal friends will surely appreciate the visit on Hearts’ Day. Check with your local zoos to see if they would give you permission to bring some yummy, healthy treats for them, as well.
5. Game Night
You may want to spend the evening or even the entire day with your couple friends. Make a list of games you can play as a group. All that strategizing and competition will surely pump up those endorphins.
6. Camp Out
Being one with nature can be a very romantic and relaxing experience. Pack a bag for each of you, toss ’em in the trunk, and drive. You don’t even need an itinerary. Don’t forget to load up on excitement and anticipation!
7. Pampering Evening
All the stress and busyness of everyday life can take its toll on your body and your spirit. And it can kill the romance. Schedule a pampering day for both of you, either in a nearby spa or just DIY, and come out refreshed and invigorated.
8. Movie Marathon
Rent a bunch of movies, grab a pack of pop-it-yourself popcorn, and reserve the couch for a whole day of movies. It will surely remind you of those carefree, college sneaking-into-each-other’s-dormitory days *wink*.
9. Hawker-Hop
Snatch your purse and invade the nearest hawker center to pig out. Streetfoods heaven!
10. Share and Care
Visit an orphanage, a senior home, or an animal shelter for the day. Love grows and multiplies the more you share it.
Over the years, Valentine’s Day has become more expensive and more complicated to celebrate as it has become harder to feel the real essence of this special day. But then again, if you really get a kick out of extravagant celebrations and you can afford it, then what’s to stop you? What counts is the quality of time that you spend with your special someone and for the love and passion to last for all the other days of the year.
