I love sauteed veggies for a quick, healthy dinner but I had never made my own sauce to pour over the stir-fry vegetables until recently. This recipe is based on an E-Mealz Stir-Fry Recipe* and I will continue to use it or alter it for stir-fry dinners moving forward.
Vegetables and Meats for Stir-Fry
Of course you can do stir-fry dinners with almost any kind of vegetable. Some of my favorite veggies for stir-fry include:
- Broccoli
- Snap-Peas
- Green Beans
- Carrot Slices
- Zucchini Slices
- Sweet Bell Peppers
If you aren’t a vegetarian you might want to add meat to your stir fried dinner. My favorite meat choices for stir-fry include:
- Small Shrimp
- Small Chunks of Beef
- Small Cubes of Chicken
Quick and Easy Homemade Stir-Fry Sauce
The basic recipe is:
- 10 oz chicken broth
- 3 Tbl corn starch
- 1/4 C orange juice
- 3 Tbl sugar
- 3 Tbl soy sauce
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/2 garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
I didn’t follow this recipe exactly. I used garlic salt instead of garlic powder and salt separately. I also used brown sugar instead of white sugar. Other ways of altering this recipe to your own tastes would substitute the chicken broth with tomato juice or a meatless broth bullion available from the grocery store. You could change out the orange juice for lemon juice and consider including Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar or cooking sherry to suite your personal tastes.
This sweet and sour, stir-fry sauce really helped dress up our usual sauteed veggies and beef. It’s quick and easy to make and can be custom made with ingredients you have on hand. If you need more help creating easy meals with handy menu plans, I highly recommend E-Mealz.com*. (*affiliate link)

Thanks for posting this! I have been thinking for a long time that I need to have sauce made up in a bottle in the fridge to make it easy to dress up a stirfry or even just steamed veggies.

I think if I made this up ahead of time I just wouldn’t add the cornstarch to thicken it until I was ready to use it.

I assume that you simmer the sauce for a time to blend the flavors and thicken the sauce? At least that’s what I’m planning to do. Sounds yummy.

I tried this recipe yesterday since I was missing a major ingredient for the stir fry sauce I usually make, and this was a big hit. I will be making it again for sure. Thank you
