The Bach Flower Remedies are gentle and natural remedies that can be used by the whole family without fear of side effects. I wrote about the Bach remedies in my last post; here are some more tips for using flower remedies at home.
Bach Flower Remedies and Children
The traditional 38 flower remedies contain brandy as a preservative, but the Bach Centre now produces a selection of alcohol-free remedies – so there is an alternative to the brandy-based drops. There are also special products on the market that are based on the Bach remedies but are created especially for kids and that do not contain any alcohol.
Some remedies are available as creams or as sprays. For instance, the Rescue cream uses Rescue Remedy as its base and is used for skin problems and everyday bumps and bruises.
Rescue Remedy in Everyday Use
Rescue Remedy is one of the most useful of all the Bach flower remedies. It can be taken in any emergency or crisis situation, but it can also come in handy whenever you feel nervous before an important event, when you can’t sleep or if you are feeling stressed out. The Bach Centre recommends it for “immediate problems”; for long-term concerns you should always select a personal combination of remedies.
Using Bach Flower Remedies when Pregnant
The Bach range has several remedies that are useful in pregnancy, especially since the remedies are so gentle and do not cause any side effects that could be harmful in pregnancy. Even though the remedies contain brandy, the daily dosage is just two drops of each remedy so the amount of alcohol you would be taking is very small. Pregnant women can dilute the drops into a glass of water or juice, add the drops to a hot drink to evaporate the alcohol – or look for those alcohol-free remedies.
Bach Flower Remedies and Pets
Bach flower remedies can be used on pets too. I have used flower remedies in the past on my cats to calm them down before moving house (an event they hated with passion). It is best to mix the remedies in the pet’s food or drink and not to put the drops straight into the pet’s mouth, mainly because of the alcohol content but also – well, if you’ve ever tried to give any kind of medication to a cat, you know what I’m talking about. Some flower remedy manufacturers also now make pet-friendly remedies.

I used Bach Rescue Remedy while I was in labor. I was feeling so restless and moving about quite a bit so the rescue remedy was a big help.
