Living in the country means lots of messes on the floor. Dirt, mud, animal contributions, ashes from the wood stove and more find our floor on a regular basis. Now I have a way to sanitize and deep clean my floors!
HAAN Steam Cleaning Floor Steamer
I had heard of steam cleaners before but never had the opportunity to use one until HAAN sent me the S135 Slim and Light to test for this review article. I was surprised at how light the package was when it arrived in the mail, but quickly unpacked everything and had the steam machine ready to go. Unlike a steamer carpet shampoo type of machine, which our family had used in our previous home, this is a light-weight floor sanitizer.
Testing the HAAN Floor Sanitizer
So, we took the steam cleaning floor sanitizer to the most logical room in the house – the kid’s room. Lots of mess in there. In fact, in my pre-steaming sweep of the room we discovered a half-eaten apple under the bed. How do those things find their way in there, I wonder?
The floor sanitizer turned on and was ready to go in literally 30 seconds. The scrub pad velcros to the steam cleaner unit and the entire thing runs gently and slowly over the floor like a Swiffer mop, except that it really cleans the floor and picks up the last leftover bits of grit that never otherwise come up!
The problem with the floors in our home is that they are old and made of the cheap linoleum stuff – I call it “cafeteria flooring.” So, even when I sweep and then mop, the floors still feel dirty underneath my feet. The floor sanitizer left the floor with the cleanest feeling that we’ve ever experienced. In fact, my husband enjoyed the way the kids room turned out so well that, while I was gone to Blissdom on a speaking engagement, he did all the other floors in the house! That makes the HAAN floor sanitizer worth its weight in gold as far as I’m concerned!
What the Floor Sanitizer Cannot Do
It’s not a total mopping system. Some of the deeper, stubborn stains on the floor did not come out, so please don’t think that the HAAN cleaner will completely replace your mopping. I do think that with regular use you would be able to cut back on mopping your floors, and you will certainly find that your floors are (much!) cleaner compared to mopping alone. But, it doesn’t entirely replace the need for elbow grease on occasion.
What the HAAN Floor Sanitizer Can Do
The HAAN floor sanitizer uses super hot steam to clean and sanitize, which means that the floors do not stay wet. Within seconds, the floor is dry to the touch, which means we were able to use the floor sanitizer on every floor in the house. Linoleum, roll-in vinyl, hardwood and even our floor rugs. The attachment that fits over the head of the steamer allows you to slide the machine over a floor rug or carpet, giving the carpet a deep cleaning and sanitizing as well. My husband got carried away and used it on the futon mattress and kitchen chairs, as well!
This is one of those household appliances that I would have considered frivolous and may not have invested in if I hadn’t known how well it worked. I found the ability to kick off my shoes and walk around my house barefoot immensely satisfying after three years of fighting the dust and grit of our country home. I also loved that, during flu season, we could deep clean and sanitize the surface of the house most frequented by my toddler.
