If you are like me, you want to know exactly what you are eating. Even when you make something “from scratch,” you still have to buy the ingredients. Around the holidays, we’re doing lots of baking and using lots of butter. It’s really simple to make your own butter, though, especially if you have a stand mixer. I’ll show you how.
Since I live on an island, everything I buy is transported in. That means simple things like butter are becoming rather costly, and the “good stuff” is even crazier. So I like to get heavy cream or whipping cream, put it in the mixer, and let it go for about five minutes. You’ll be able to watch it turn from white liquid to yellow solid as it mixes – and that’s it! Wrap it up with some parchment paper or throw it into a recycled container and you’ve got your own homemade butter! It might wind up more affordable, and you’ll definitely know what’s in it. Plus, there’s nothing like fresh butter in homemade baked goods.
Watch me make a batch, and then let me know how yours goes. Enjoy!

When making butter, I thought you had to “wash and press” the butter to get rid of the butter milk that could shorten the life of the butter (IE: increase spoilage time)?
